Why Switch to Natural Deodorant

Hi Everyone! Today I’m going to share a healthy choice I’ve made recently.

I’ve recently switched to natural deodorant and would like to share why. Have you ever considered that you’re preventing a natural bodily function from occurring? We are meant to sweat. The skin is our largest organ, and the chemicals within the products we use are absorbed directly into the bloodstream.

Almost all of the deodorants sold at the drugstore contain aluminum compounds, which work to clog the underarm’s pores, preventing sweat. These sources of aluminum, aluminum chloride, aluminum zirconium, aluminum chlorohydrate and aluminum hydroxybromide, have been linked to conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. The parabens found in these deodorants can also cause a host of disorders.

Aluminum is a neurotoxin, and since deodorant is applied close to the breasts, it’s been said that it may have a relation to breast cancer.

Using a natural deodorant can reduce your chances of developing these conditions. Since I started using Schmidt’s natural deodorant, I’ve only noticed a difference in my sweat when I am doing cardio, such as a spin class. I find that I do sweat more, but the scent of the deodorant still masks any odor.

I’ve been using Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant in “Bergamot and Lime”. I purchased mine from iHerb, and it’s in jar form, so I have to apply it with my hands. I recently found out that they make the same deodorant in a stick form, and it’s available at Target for almost half of the price.

The ingredients are as follows: Maranta Arundinacea (Arrowroot) Powder, Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Triglyceride (Fractionated Coconut Oil), Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot) Essential Oil, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Essential Oil, Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract (PhytoCide Elderberry OS). It’s free of aluminum and artificial fragrances.

My personal choice is to use natural deodorant on a daily basis, but if I have a special event, I may wear my Secret Gel Deodorant for one night.

I’m sure there are tons of other great natural deodorants, but this is the one that’s been working for me. Let me know if you decide to make the switch, and how it goes!
